I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in the spring of 2020, my arms, wrist, and fingers swelled up like a balloon and were very achy. Luckily I already had an rheumatology appointment set up for my autoinflammatory syndrome (digaonse in December 2019) a week later. And just like that BOOM, rheumatoid arthritis was added to my list of diagnose after the ultrasound showed how bad it was. Since the spring of 2020 I have tried a lot of biologics and jak inhibitor medication to try and get my disease under control. Like Enbrel, Xeljanz, Rinvoq, Kineret, Remicade, and now Avsola.
I will be having my fifth avsola infusion in two weeks and after months of pushing my insurance company they finally granted my doctor to increase my dosage to 10 mg per kg! Which is exciting news as this the dosage my doctor wanted me to start with when we switched to remicade and then avsola.
In truth there hasn’t been any major improvements in my symptoms since being on avsola but that can be said for all the medication I have tried. Though in my blood work, it showed my inflammation was down for a few months. The swelling in my arms has improved but most of my joints are still swollen and painful. The fatigue and brain fog is still really bad, but we still keep on truckin through. Right now in this battle Rheumatoid arthritis is winning the battle but I’m still hoping that we will find a medication that works really well for me and with the lifestyle changes I am slowly making it will all work out at some point. I mean it has to right ?
